The hum at HIMSS

Linda Sullivan

Given the size of every HIMSS annual convention, there is always a lot of buzz.

One of this year’s is mergers and acquisitions – after this week’s convention, who is going to acquire whom and/or who will be creating strategic partnerships.

These are already going on but I think we’ll see more technology-driven partnerships coming out in the next couple of months. It only makes sense given that nearly every facet of the hospital experience both for patients and staff is touched by technology.

Pharmacies have been doing RTA for years now. Maybe it’s a little more clear-cut than some other heatlh services you receive in a hospital, and on the fly adjustments (i.e., dispensing limits) can easily be made, but as someone who worked in a retail pharmacy setting for years, it boggles my mind when I receive 3 separate bills (one for supplies, 2 for different doctors) from my hospital 60+ days after a visit.
