Ready or not, here comes Stage 2!

As 2012 is closing out, Meaningful Use Stage 2 is closing in. As we all know, the leap from Stage 1 to Stage 2 is a huge one.

While physicians and hospitals have until the end of 2014 to meet all requirements, the huge reliance on IT, facility-wide training, patient involvement (5% of patients will have to “view online, download, and transmit” the care record to meet the CMS requirement), and now the looming possibility of pre-payment audits, mean that it is indeed a challenge.

My hat is off to healthcare providers and facilities who are wading through this process. As a vendor, I think it’s important that we understand the challenges our clients are facing and find ways within our scope of services to help ease the way. Since Stage 2 now requires that EMRs have the ability to import dictated narrative, it’s incumbent upon transcription companies to work with EMRs to facilitate the transition.
